Mi, A Name I Call Myself

I’m not even going to bother listing the six songs from which I’ve taken lyrics. You’re all sufficiently well versed in Google (or else the lyrics are obvious enough) that I trust you can figure it out. Hint: they’re all FANTASTIC songs.

Scent is supposedly the sense that brings back memories with the biggest emotional punch, but damn does sound do a good job too. Most of the songs I mentioned don’t even bring back a particular (or even unpleasant) memory; they just flood back the past in huge waves of nostalgia that overpower the song’s awesomeness. So I’ve been trying to beat that out of them.

Speaking of music, today I decided to find some use for the nice camera I’m borrowing from SPNN, and I ended up recording myself playing two of my songs. Unfortunately, I did a lousy job messing with the sound levels, and it recorded very, very quietly. Nevertheless the clips will shortly be viewable on YouTube, unless I decide to take them down out of embarrassment.

(When I get back to school, I would like to check out some equipment and do some semi-decent recordings of a bunch of my songs, and then maybe make some videos to accompany them. Until then I will just keep belting the songs out in my room to the annoyance of my housemates.)

Oh, and ONE LAST MUSIC RELATED THING! My new favorite reality show is “How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria?” You can watch a whole bunch o’ clips from it right here.

My favorite application of listening to the same song over and over and over is getting the easily-distracted part of my brain to shut down while I’m working on something else. Your mind can’t wander when it’s paying attention to the lyrics of “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)” for the 28th time.

Ha ha, it’s amusing you should mention “500 Miles.” That song (and the Family Guy clip which references it) were played far too many times in my double first year.

Good observations about music, though I do have to admit that scent is a bit more powerful to jogging memory. at least to me. The jam tonight was good. We did “Needs More Facial Hair: Tales From The Black Lodge”. It turned out cool, and we had a lot of folks show up for it.

Aw, I SO wish I could have been there. In my empty, empty life, that night happened to be the one big meeting for this internship I’m doing. Oh cruel fate.
