Package o’ Care
Friends, I have run out of steam and excuses. But fortunately not comics! Which means more Chris and Athena banter! It is an embarrassingly large percentage of my life.
A few days ago I saw an ad for a necklace in the New York Times. It had all these little metal lumps on it, each with something different written on them. “Imagine,” “Believe,” “Wisdom,” “Strength,” “Happiness,” “Laugh, “Love, “Courage,” “Joy,” “Inspire,” and “Peace” were the words that made up this necklace, with “Live Your Dreams” written on a special ring in the necklace’s center. I dislike the lack of theme here. Clearly, “Live Your Dreams” is the central idea to this story, with the other words therefore being key elements to “living one’s dreams.” Okay, so with that in mind I can get behind go-for-it verb commands like “imagine” and “believe,” but then what about words like “joy”? “Be joyous,” perhaps, but I don’t think that really fits the living-one’s-dreams theme we’ve already established. It’s a good life goal, but I don’t think I’d call it a dream.
As if the jarring, disjointed mix of verbs and adjectives weren’t annoying enough, the idiot that made this had the gumption to make it out of sterling silver, and sell it for $400. Perhaps it is part of what Sarah Palin spent her wardrobe budget on.
It’s called the “Inspiration Charm Necklace” and is exclusively at Macy’s Herald Square, in case you’re looking to buy one.
In other news: “Ms. Silverman gave no indication that she was trying to be Tina Fey. She wanted to get back, she said, to her puerile joke making.” (Or in other words, “Sarah Silverman: Not Tina Fey” says Times.) (Do you get it I am making feminist commentary here.)

I love Chris and Athena comics because I can vividly imagine Chris’ dramatic emotions, and they make me giggle.

Sarah Silverman is not Tina Fey, because Tina Fey is wittier and and prettier. But don’t tell my kibbutz mom I said that, because she’s totally Sarah Silverman’s SISTER.
Also, great comic. I like the you and Chris banter for the same reasons Evan has already pointed out. It’s like real life!

You look like a muppet in the top right panel.

I was there, and this is totally not the verbatim sentences used in the conversation.
My ideal of Action Athena is accurate journalism has been shattered!*
*With the full acknowledgment that my memory of the conversation is almost certainly inaccurate, given the unreliability of human memory

Beg your pardon, Dylan, but I wrote this conversation down within five minutes of it happening. Any discrepancies are either minor memory failures or editing decisions to make it fit the panels.
Or not. This is Athena Brand Journalism, after all Making myself look like a muppet in the fifth panel, for instance, was a very important journalistic decision.
Evan: Chris is an unbearable cartoon.
Chris: yeah that’s right.

This comic made me laugh out loud (not REALLY loud, but out loud none the less). It is VERY RARE that I laugh out loud while reading things or EVEN watching hilarious movies. I’m impressed. You are a success!
