The Rattail

Somebody has been asking to be in a comic for quite some time.  This is what he gets.

Cosmically, I heard a story about a girl with a rattail this weekend, from my friend Maria in New York.  Maria is fucking hilarious and tells stories better than anyone.  The rattail in question belonged to an incredibly pretentious, incredibly skinny hipster, who was bald but for the rattail.  Maria totally showed up rattail girl in an indie knowledge showdown.

Fuck rattails, that’s the moral there.

Besides seeing Maria, and Sarah G, there was some other stuff I did in New York.  I went to Chinatown TWICE, and got a sesame ball each time, from Taipan Bakery.  I walked from there all the way to St Mark’s, and along the way I am pretty sure I saw Ethan Coen.  There were two reasons I immediately thought, “no, that can’t be him.”  1) He looked too fashionable and 2) he wasn’t with Joel.  Upon realizing those were both stupid reasons, I am pretty sure it was Ethan Coen.

I bought a comic book and a slice of pizza at St Mark’s.  While eating the pizza, I read a review of “Milk” and started crying, which is so not okay around New Yorkers (or anyone, really), so I quickly finished that review and moved along to less emotional ones, like that idiotic Reese Witherspoon/Vince Vaughn Christmas dribble.  Reading about shitty movies makes me feel intelligent and superior, i.e. like your average New Yorker, so that went pretty well.

On the drive home from New York with housemates Sarah and Diana, I bought my first-ever item from a McDonald’s dollar menu.  It was two little baked apple pies.  I’m expecting my official “Real American” card in the mail any day now.

Wow, I mentioned three different kinds of food today!  It’s like I am a food critic or something!

    Hooray me!

Do I actually make that hand gesture? That’s hilarious.

I once saw Richard Thomas, the actor who played John-Boy Walton (I know, I know…WAY before your time) while walking in the Upper East side of NYC. I caught his eye and took a breath. He smiled at me, nodded and went on his way. I always wonder if I should have asked him for his autograph, but I’m glad I didnt’.

On another note…once upon a time when I was studying in Germany, my mother came to visit. We took a bus to Colmar, France. On the bus, we sat behind Gregory Corso (beat generation poet). I sewed a button on his coat. Typical dorky mid-Western thing to do. But he was quite gracious.

Those are weird celebrity sitings! It FIGURES that you would do get out a sewing kit and MEND something.
I didn’t know your mom came to visit you while you were in Germany. That’s really cool. Maybe my mother should do the same…
