Poland Is Not Yet Lost
You know what was actually pretty fun? Poland. Even the moment illustrated above, when, at a café with Sierra, I reached my arms up to stretch and a homeless man grabbed my hands. That moment took place on the last day of our trip, which was spent in Wroclaw, a town way cuter than I expected. We were all tired by then, and wary at the thought of being crammed into a single hostel room, but the hostel (and our bedroom) was so fucking cute, it whisked away all the bad moods. High five, Poland!
Though Jeff Wallen did indeed cram us full of history, we managed to learn plenty of irrelevant things as well. Below is an email I sent out earlier this afternoon to our group (and that includes Jeff Wallen). It should give a sense of our Poland dinner conversations.
Hey Group,
Here are links to five SUPER IMPORTANT things which we have talked about at different points, and which I’m pretty sure are worth vital hours of your internet time.
1) A well-made hour-long documentary about Real Dolls.
2) Trailer for the “Grizzly Man” documentary.
3) Video about Christian the Lion.
4) This American Life’s episode on testosterone.
5) This American Life’s episode about the babies switched at birth.
Sincerely,
Athena
(Obviously those who were not on the Poland trip can still find much to enjoy in these five links. They are fantastic!)

Wroc?aw is where my grandfather was born, back when it was part of Germany and called Breslau.
HI ATHENA

Evan, that is WAY cool! That place was awesome; your grandfather clearly had impeccable taste.
Sarah, looking at that photo, now a year-and-a-half old, only reminds me that you, an organic woman, are falling victim to the ravages of time, unlike my perfect, ever-youthful, 36DD real doll. This is why it can never work between us, Goldfeather.

I have seen the Real Dolls one (Still disturbs me at night if I think about it), the Christian the Lion (Still gives me shivers—happy ones—when I think about it any time) and will promptly check out the others. Just today in the paper, there was an article about two 54 year old women who had been switched at birth. The mother of one of them KNEW IT and told the nurse in the hospital it was the wrong baby!
Anyway…I love the comic. Watch out for homeless men.

You ever see Lars and the Real Girl? Not a particularly well made movie, but definitely memorable.
