Minnipeg Part 5
So Monday was reality television, which is gross and embarrassing in one way.
Today is about autobiographical work. Which is gross and embarrassing in another way.
There’s a fine line between thoughtful insight and blatant self-absorption. As someone who feels a compulsion to keep not just a private journal, but also an internet-based comic/blog about my life, there should be little doubt as to which side of the line I’m on. I try to justify it by saying that at least I have a sense of humor—at least I try to be entertaining while navel-gazing—but there’s no way around it: I’m a self-centered prick.
But I just can’t shake my love of journal comics! It doesn’t matter how “mundane” someone’s life is; if they make a comic about it, chances are I read that comic religiously. I am going to go out on a limb and suggest that if you are reading Action Athena, perhaps you enjoy autobiographical comics too. If that is the case, then I hope you won’t mind that I’m about to list off some of my favorites:
American Elf, James Kochalka
DAR, Erika Moen
Donation Derby, Dorothy Gambrell
Ellerbisms, Marc Ellerby
The Everyday, Adam Cadwell
Fart Party, Julia Wertz
The Journal Comic, Drew Weing
My Stupid Life, Mitch Clem
Overcompensating, Jeffrey Rowland
Perfect Stars, Romantic
Wasted Talent, Angela Melick

I like thinking of OC as strictly autobiographical.

Hahaha, Overcompensating is at least 110% true. Oh, and CASEY: we (G und Me) await your arrival evermore impatiently.
Doyle: Oh no, are we not friends anymore? Man, and your comic’s even, like, three TIMES a journal comic, ’cause it’s got all three of you. You know what would definitely top all my lists? A Jeff Goldblum webcomic. Or maybe I just mean an Ian Malcolm webcomic. Get on it.
