Minnipeg Part 15

Happy Friday! Only ONE more Minnipeg comic after this, folks! Thanks for bearing with me through this one. Believe me, if you’re sick of them, I assure you I am ten times more so.

Hey, here are some fun things to check out:

Two terrifying things from the past: True Confessions, the 1920s equivalent to, uh, Post-Secret? And Ilsa, She wolf of the SS, the 1974 equivalent to Inglourious Basterds (Which was awesome, by the way. Too awesome for me to bother talking about on the internet.).

Something equally terrifying, but unfortunately not from the distant past, is this Michele Bachmann clip reel.

And now some feminism, to counter the Bachmann: A friend of mine (and the former leader/founder of Fire & Ice, the burlesque troupe I was in) is doing a project called “I Paid for College,” about student sex workers. If you know anyone who fits the bill, you might want to get them involved. In addition, one of her short films is going to be shown in a Good Vibrations film festival in Boston this September. I intend to be there; anyone else in the Boston area should make it their business to be there as well.

As long as I’m talking feminism, I might as well throw out one of my favorite Cat and Girl comics, in which Dorothy Gambrell takes on Achewood. (I love Achewood. For serious. For very serious. I just also love Gambrell’s critique.)

Hey, how about this AWESOME Joss Whedon speech? In which he responds to the question so often asked of him: “Why the heck do you write strong female characters?”

And finally: some pictures from the Big Funny opening, by Danno Klonowski. I’m in one!

Whew! I am so relieved to learn that we don’t have to worry about Global Warming. To think…carbon dioxide is a natural gas and is a natural product of nature. I can sleep easily. Thanks for the Bachman link.

    A) I love the Minnipeg series.
    2) The Good Vibrations film festival is 2 blocks away from my apartment at the theater I’m a member of. I’ll be there.
