Summer 2009 Pt 3
Speaking of “500 Days of Summer,” here’s a great Jezebel article on the subject, which was passed along to me recently. I love, love Jezebel’s term “Manic Pixie Dream Girl,” to describe the kind of indie girl archetype displayed in “500 Days” and other such films. It’s such a dumb archetype, yet it gets used over and over and over. That term sums up the dumbness so perfectly.
Edit: I figured out later that this term actually comes from NATHAN RABIN (!!) of the Onion’s A.V. Club.
My preferred summer romance? James Kochalka and his wife, Amy.
And, okay, the whole Love-Your-Body/Fat-Is-Beautiful movement as performed by the fashion industry can get pretty obnoxious/offensive/creepy, AND YET I’ve got a raging celebrity crush on model Lizzi Miller.
Oh! The Minneapolis Conspiracy’s August jam comic is available online. I’ve got panels on pages 10, 12, 13, 14, and 15. I fuckin love Minnesota cartoonists.
So I have it on authority that the Omen still exists in some form, which means this comic will probably run in it. Hooray for vanity!
PS Man, I threw a lot of links around today. To top it off, here is the most recent link my grandparents sent me.

Sweet links today.
This better not be the end of the Summer 2009 series.

Umm…are you telling me that Sam did not like Inglourious Basterds? What a jerk! Also, your mother is an experienced crossword master. I am honored to know her. Hope the start of your senior year (GASP!) has been enjoyable.

P.S. I forgive you for not illustrating me going to district 9 with you.
P.P.S. Also, Sam only liked G.I. Joe? It was fun, but the other movies were awesome as well…except 500 days of summer, which I did not see.

SHE IS LYING. I liked Inglorious Basterds a lot, just not ENOUGH to watch it again the next day. It was a long movie.
And my enthusiasm for GI Joe was mostly fake. I really only liked the “My father taught me to WIN!” line.

You so totally did not bug me and Chris. Come back soon!

William: Sam’s favorite movie was totally G.I. Joe, he had no interest in any of the others. And I’m glad you forgive me for not illustrating you in! And, hopefully also, for not seeing you one more time! Or giving you back Black Hole! omg i’m a shitty friend. No, but I’ve started composing you a letter. So sometime in the not-too-distant future, I will have to request your current address.
Sam: You made me spend TWO HOURS in target and best buy because we just barely missed the first showing of GI Joe. Would you have done that for Inglourious Basterds? NO.
Ian: Thank god. We’ll have to keep bringing you presents, though. Just in case.
