Vagina Jokes
In case you are unfamiliar with the fantastic work of Julie Doucet, here is a cute example. Today’s comic directly rips off a piece from her book “My Most Secret Desire.” (Aaaand hopefully all you internet geeks will guess what panel four is ripping off.) I just wish I could more accurately mimic her drawing style.
THE MORAL OF THE STORY: Doucet has a twisted sense of humor and a vagina. Weird! That makes me think of one of my favorite Kate Beaton comics. Sarah Silverman also has… something to say on the subject. But I really like this line from comedian Maria Bamford:
Maybe it isn’t that there aren’t that many funny women—it’s that they’re outnumbered by the glut of accountants with a Chris Rock impersonation and an irrational sense of confidence.
Amen! And thank god for Sarah Haskins. When it comes to women and the media, she’s the go-to-gal on any subject. From Diets to Barbie to Online Dating to Lifetime Television to The View to Number Two to Disney Princesses to Chick Flicks to Sarah Palin to–to–like a million more things! Go watch!
PS I guess the reason I decided to get back on the ol’ Women & Humor horse is because of this recent event (I admit I’m paraphrasing):
~Several Weeks Ago~
Me: Hey Male Friends, check out these funny videos of failed marriage proposals that Semple showed me.
Male Friends: …
Male Friend 1: Why are you doing this?
Male Friend 2: Yeah, this sucks.
Male Friend 1: Seriously, Athena. Why did you think we’d want to watch this?
Male Friend 2: Let’s go back to watching videos of chicks punching each other.
~Today~
Semple: Hey Male Friend 1, have you seen these videos of failed marriage proposals?
Male Friend 1: Yeah, they’re hilarious!

Once I has halfway through your second paragraph, I was all like: I’m going to ask Athena is she’s up on her Sarah Haskins!
And then the fourth paragraph hit me like a ton of bricks.
But! I can boast that Ms. Haskins is coming to *Pomona* next week, which is pretty darn excited.
Also, am a very big fan of this homage comic in general.

OK…this is another reason MEN SHOULDN’T PROPOSE TO WOMEN in those cliche ways. I felt bad for the poor woman. Good thing she learned early that her date is a jerk.
About Barbie…you know how I feel about my favorite role model. I am surprised you’d stoop to Barbie bashing. I wish there was a carpenter Barbie. Or maybe there is…

Goldfeather: BAM. You got it. Man, “burnsauce.” Woah. Time flies, etc. And yeah, Sarah Haskins is the shit.
Phoebe: Yeah.
Casey: Ha! We are psychically linked, at least as far as Feminist Interpretations of the Media are concerned! You are cool, sir. I’m glad you enjoyed the various homages. And I hope Sarah Haskins rocks your campus!

Mom: Barbie will always have my vote over Bratz.
