Cinematic Genius
OMG have you guys seen “The Room”??? I watched it TWICE this weekend—alone on Friday, and with a group on Saturday—and OH MY GOSH!!!
“The Room,” an independent film from 2005, has been called “The Citizen Kane of bad movies.” Its star, Tommy Wiseau, wrote, directed, produced, and executive produced the film. The entire film was shot on both film and digital, because Wiseau didn’t know anything about either format. Since the film’s release, and the notoriety and cult status it has achieved, Wiseau has stopped marketing the film as a drama, and instead claims it was intended as a black comedy all along. His actors claim otherwise.
I would definitely, definitely recommend watching the film in its entirety, but for a taste, check out this clip. And this one.
Speaking of filmmaking, awhile back I saw this year’s Hampshire Alumni Reel. There was lots of cool stuff. Here are a few things I remember:
* Fartfest 4000 (Randy Wakerlin, 95Fall, Director)
* LUVS Diaper Commercial (Ian Mackenzie, 79Fall, Editor)
* The National Parks: America’s Best Idea (Ken Burns, 71Fall, Director)
* Lost in America (Ian Kennedy, 95Fall, Director/Editor/Producer)
* Up (Alex Harvill, 99Fall, Matte Paint Lead)
* Better Off Ted (Victor Fresco, 76Fall, Writer/Executive Producer)
*Matt Krefting: I Couldn’t Love You More (Brendan Toller, 04Fall, Director/Editor/Cinematographer)

I don’t care what those other dudes said; that movie is now one of my favorites.

Will Morey: YES IT TOTALLY WAS!!!! And also a clip from “The Day The Earth Stopped.” And also “The Vowels.” Gunther commented on how this year they got multiple of submissions from the same group of people, and also how it’s great to see the way Hampshire film alums stick together when they enter the real world.
You guys are obviously doing lots of amazing things out in California.
Tabitha: Thank you. THANK YOU.

Well…I dunno how amazing “The Terminators” is but…no, in all fairness it is pretty cool to have my name up there on the “Story By” credit…even if I don’t even understand the movie that came out of my story.
I’m going to try to comment on here more, I do read your blog/comics frequently!

Will: Aw, thanks! And I think the Terminators looked GLORIOUSLY cheesy, and it is SOOOO cool that you have your name on it.
