Goldfeather’s Last Weekend
(For those unfamiliar with the three wolf moon shirt thing: it has its own Wikipedia page.)
Perhaps you remember Tim from a Berlin comic I did last spring? He was one of Sarah’s buddies during her Vienna semester. He also just graduated from Grinnell, which is where my little sister goes and which, you may remember, I just made a minicomic about. Doug was Tim’s roommate in Vienna; he goes to the U of M. Tim, Doug, and Michael (another dude from the Vienna program) all met up with Sarah and me this weekend, as well as a weekend last summer (that time we made them eat pudding cake).
Speaking of my lifemate Sarah Goldfeather: she is driving to Brooklyn this Friday. I guess I kinda saw it coming. She’s signed a one-year lease on a place in Bushwick, and already has a job lined up as a violin teacher. I will miss her dearly, but I’m grateful for the extremely nice weekend we just had together. A brief rundown of what it entailed:
Friday:
* Side Porch Trio music during a thunderstorm
* Surprise appearance by Tim (who had kept his visit a secret from everyone but Doug)
* A regular HOLY FUCK of a thunderstorm while we hid in the Electric Fetus
* Driving through the lake that was Lyndale as we made our way to French Meadow
* Good conversation on the ride back to Northfield with Sarah
Saturday:
* Braving 35W road work to get to the Minnesota Center for Book Arts
* Drawing minicomics with Ryan Dow, Mike Toft, David Steinlicht, and Steve Stwalley
* Making an Action Athena button with the MCBA’s totally rad button maker
* Buying more Joe Matt from Big Brain
* Meeting Sarah, Michael, and Doug at Espresso Royale where we found MADELYN
* Printing a fortuitous extra Why? ticket for Madelyn at Doug’s house
* Chipotle on the way to First Ave
* Deerhoof being bizarre/awesome
* Why? being everything I wanted them to be and more
* Tons more rain after the concert
* Auto harp awe at Madelyn’s
* Fearlessly driving through the weather to get to St Paul
* Hefeweizen at the Muddy Pig
* Driving the Minneapolis dwellers back home
* Tombstone at Laurel Ave
* Sleeping on the comfier of the couches
Sunday:
* Bagels and coffee with Mike (not Michael) and Schodt
* Cleaning the entire Laurel Ave apartment to Mumford & Sons
* Bananagrams
* Thrift shopping with Tim/Doug/Michael at the Everyday People in St Paul
* Picking up goulash supplies at the Midway Rainbow
* Drinking Sprecher root beer instead of beer
* Driving back to Northfield by 8:00 in order to be all fresh and perky for…
Monday:
* Work at 5:30 AM
Now I am just lounging about and smelling like delicious coffee.

I LOVE the Muddy Pig. By far my favorite STP bar. I hope you enjoyed your time there.

Huh. Apparently my neighbors in elementary school were way before their time.
And on the subject of things that apparently have a wikipedia article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apples_and_oranges

Thank you, Tabitha, for a most informative link. I particularly liked the visual showing “an apple and an orange”. It could actually be art.

Question to the artist: How much time do you spend reading comics on a daily basis? There is an ungodly amount of material out there. What do you pay attention to?

This comic and proceeding bullets are an accurate depiction of what happened. Yes. Such a weekend!
Brooklyn is not forever, my love! It’s strange, because that foreshadowing comic came just before my resolute and months-long decision NOT to move to Brooklyn, and then it happened anyway. I guess it was fate. I’ll miss you in more ways than an Action Athena wall post can describe.
BLARRRRRGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!

AHHHHHHHHHHH
I like the list of things. I want to see you soon, I’ll be in Northfield tomorrow through Friday. Do you work all the time?
P.S. AUTOHARP.

I think you missed a bullet point from Sunday wherein Mike hit you and stuck you with fly-glue tape. (what a jerk.)

William: We should DEFINITELY go back to the Muddy Pig together sometime.
Casey: Oh lord… I suppose it really varies, depending on the day. Also, I go through phases of webcomics and phases of print comics. Comics are real fast to read, so when I get a bunch at the library, I’ll just binge read a bunch of them in a day. My personal tastes tend to run towards personal, autobiographical, good female characters, etc. (SURPRISE SURPRISE). Oh man. Oh man. I don’t even know what to begin with, though. We should trade comics reading lists sometime. I like reading the Daily Cross Hatch and listening to Ink Studs; always a good way to get interested in new title and authors. Ink Studs has momentarily replaced TAL as my go-to listening material.
Ian: GODDAMNIT. I can’t believe Mike told you that! Goddamnit.
