MIXsters
Regarding Today’s Comic: I can’t figure out how to draw Danno Klonowski. Ryan Dow is slightly easier, though I forgot his glasses! See, Danno used to have rather distinguishing facial hair. Now he just has a beard and a buzz cut. And buzz cuts are tough to draw. Thanks a lot, Danno.
Actually, a very genuine (dare I say unironic?) thank you is due to Danno (who, among many other things, was the featured artist of the Lutefisk Sushi D show, and my tablemate at MIX): he was last Saturday’s fantastic guest on The Geek Report, a weekly hour-long radio show of which I am a part.
The Geek Report is hosted by Lance Ward, Ted Anderson, Bud Burgy and myself. We talk about comics, movies, video games, and other geeky pop culture goodies. We also have a weekly guest! Two weeks ago was totally entertaining local author Mark McGinty, and this week, as I said, was the infamous Danno.
I don’t know exactly where the Geek Report is headed yet, but I’m excited to be along for the ride! We currently have three episodes up on the website, with a new one coming every Saturday afternoon. (Speaking of the website, I designed the current banner! Lance designed this awesome poster.) We tape at the KFAI studios (which are awesome), and have an actual producer (my stars!).
Since KFAI is right across the street from the Hard Times Cafe, I’ve had the pleasure of having some meals there in recent weeks. Danno and I had a good time eating our half trash breakfasts and talking/gossiping about comics last week.
In Closing: The Geek Report! It’s a good thing! Keep an ear on it! I’ll be keeping you updated.
PS I believe there’s still time to answer our weekly trivia question for the chance to win a helluva prize (a box full of Danno’s comics!!).
PPS Oh yeah, all four issues of Burn Book are now available for sale ONLINE.

The secret to drawing Danno Klonowski is to simply ignore whatever facial hair he has, and draw him with a big pair of Fleming Hazmat muttonchops. You will find the drawing will be instantly recognizable. Someday Danno will stop this shaving foolishness and return to his hairy destiny.

To be fair, Danno was only pointing out the hipster because I had mentioned how I didn’t really know what hipsters looked like. Now I know.

Do you guys ever talk about doughnuts on the Geek Report? Seems like a worthy topic to me…

AWESOME! I am enjoying my re-occurring character in ACTION ATHENA…I may have to start scripting everything I say.
And while STEVE is right, my new destiny shall involve a facial hair configuration as yet dreamt of by man. So…that might take a while…I think most have been done.
Thanks for everything Athena.
OH! And I’ll be BUD for the Halloween show since he’ll be in NYC! Can’t wait!

Ha! I love that last silent panel!
DANNO- if you’re gonna be BUD, the facial hair goes as follows: unibrow and beard

Steve: It’s so weird, but I think you are totally right! I guess Danno was just meant to look like a cartoon. Danno, start growing back those chops!
Oh, Dad! You and those donuts!
Danno: It’s about time you made another appearance. Good thing there’s a jam tomorrow night!
Bud: Oh man! My Geek Report drawing of you was off! I totally should’ve done a crazy unibrow. Next time I will not forget.
